Hunting for white partridges

Upon arrival in the hunting area, local hunters or best collective farmers who go to pick berries should be questioned, where the swamps are located and what areas they are especially rich in berries in a given year.

Gather the necessary information, be in the swamp before sunrise and begin the search for broods. In July, finding a brood is difficult without a dog. In the hunting literature it was repeatedly pointed out that the presence of the kuron-talk is easily detected by the crosses of their traces, clearly visible on the moss of the swamp. But I never managed to notice such prints. But at the end of September, when the partridges begin to change into winter clothes, they are easy to detect by feathers lying in abundance.

For a successful search for broods, a dog with a broad search, firm stance, upper flair and fast liner is necessary. The latter is especially important: partridges, especially those who are worn up, run for a long time in front of the dog.

Having found a brood of partridges, as well as in preparing the hunting for grouse, make a wreck at the place of its lifting. The partridges brood walks more widely than the black grouse, and maybe in a few days you will not lift it in the same place – the hall will still serve as a guide, although you will have to cover a large area when searching.

Being in vast lands, far from the settlement, remember the road better: in a moss bog it is easy to get lost, especially in a gray, without the sun, a day, and to sleep in a wet moss, maybe in the rain, without any shelter, is hard. If you still decide to stay overnight, try to find a place drier, somewhere near a group of pines. Having gathered dry wood and having broken branches, it is necessary to lay down at least some flooring on a place where you can lie down and make a wind barrier out of the branches.

Walking through the moss bog is difficult, especially in a wet year: the foot dips ankle-deep in each step. In such conditions, you don’t go through much and even the dog will soon slow down the search, and if it is not sufficiently trained, then after a short period of time it will completely refuse to work. Therefore, hunters, who for health reasons are contraindicated in large physical stress, should beware of visiting impassable swamps.

Shot to shoot at partridges in the first days of hunting – No. 8 and 7, and the later in the fall, the larger the shot should be loaded cartridges, but not higher than No. 5; in the late autumn, partridges usually have to shoot at a considerable distance and the charge of a larger fraction will carry the bird.

When hunting for white partridges, as with any running hunt, you must first think about shoes. Of course, pistons or boots are most comfortable, but short rubber boots are also quite suitable. The rest of the costume is no different from the clothes that are usually on the hunt at this time of year.
